FROM THE EDITOR AUG 2011

The August issue of Granbury/Glen Rose Showcase magazine is like our family scrapbook or home movies in a still version. We host our photo contest and share the sights of our communities. Family, friends and fun photos— it’s better than a thousand words. We hope you enjoy them and share more next year. There’s so much to do and so much water to enjoy, we may have to extend summer—maybe not the heat. Canoe the river. Ski the lake and splash on the beach. (Morning is my favorite time.) Enjoy the excellent end of summer shopping and fun-filled events.

Add more deer to the list of things to see in the land between the rivers. A friend on Facebook recently posted a picture of a fawn that broke into their bedroom window. We had one born in the neighbor’s flowerbed this year. I have no proof, but it seems to me the number of triplets have increased. A friend with a PhD in science, suggest extreme heat or herd control may be the cause for so many triplets. When the herd shrinks, nature increases fertility to insure the species continues. I’m just happy to see them scamper around between the trees, learning to be bucks and does. The heat this year has been brutal for all animals. Maybe we should plant a few things for the birds, bees and deer to eat, plus fill the birdbath more often.

True blue support for hometown businesses buzzes around the valley like bees on honey. Have you chosen the three locally owned businesses you want to support by buying something from them once a month? If you’re like me, you can’t choose only three. This is a great way to preserve our historic buildings and keep our taxes low. Encourage your buiness and organizations to buy local.

After eleven and a half years of nostalgia concerts and over fifteen years of sharing love with friends and neighbors, Granbury Live will be closing its doors on August 13th. Sister and Sandi have been like family to most of the people in this area. Having created one of the best shows this side of Branson, Sandi and the late Tom McRae, along with Sister brought us joy, laughter and inspiration. Many times when my husband and I felt so down and out, we would get tickets and let the Granbury Live music heal our soul. Sandi and her new husband are finding other directions for their life. But she and Sister and the talented cast and crew of Granbury Live will remain our neighbors for a while. Perhaps the cast will perform in some new venue that God brings to our community. Thank you for the memories and the family-friendly fun.

As Granbury Live begins its final shows on Granbury’s Historic Square, the new Rio Brazos Music Hall opens on the other side of Granbury toward Glen Rose on Highway 144. Changes do happen.

I can’t wait to see what else is coming to the magic valley. God is good…all the time.
